Getting Treatment
THE FIRST STEP IS YOURS AND YOU ARE HALFWAY THERE, ON THE PATH TO HEALING AND A FULFILLING LIFE-GETTING TREATMENT
An initial evaluation conducted by a clinician trained in eating disorders is your first step. In choosing a therapist, be sure to ask about credentials and experience. A professional eating disorder expert should have at least a Masters degree in a mental health modality. This specialist should also be able to provide you with their background, addressing continuing education and years of experience working with eating disordered patients.
Perhaps the best way to find a therapist is to call Avalon Eating Disorder Treatment Center. Avalon’s specialized team is ready to assist you on your path to recovery, offering professional assessments and referrals to a variety of medical and psychological experts in the community.
If your needs are best met in a partial hospitalization program, you will be advised to obtain a complete physical examination from your family physician. A thorough assessment process will be conducted by Avalon’s medical director, therapists and nutrition professional.
THE FIRST STEP - YOURS
Deciding to commit to recovery with the goal of full restoration is a giant step. It begins with contacting your primary therapist, primary care physician or by calling Avalon Centers, Inc. at (716) 839-0999. An intake evaluation with one of Avalon’s eating disorder specialists and medical director will then be scheduled. If you are not already linked with a primary therapist, referrals will be provided for after-care. It will also be necessary to complete a physical examination with your primary care physician before being admitted into the program.
